11am–6pm: All-day Activities
- Marketplace with local beekeepers' honey, honey-made food and beverages, bee-based beauty and health products, and so much more
- Observation hives from Tim O'Neill and Brooklyn Grange
- Bee-themed t-shirt silkscreening with Bushwick Print Labs
- Face painting by Magin Schantz
11am–1pm: Bee-Themed Mural Painting
Sophia Skeans and Rockaway Artists Alliance lead kids in a painting project with a bee and beach theme.
12pm: Performance Art
New York-based artist and designer L. Mylott Manning will create a honeycomb-inspired work of art.
1–2pm: Bee Puppet-Making Workshop
Xun Ye of Puppetry in Practice hosts a workshop with kids (limited to 15) to create bee puppets.
1–3pm: Bee Cartoons
Author-illustrator Angelo DeCesare will draw funny cartoons about bees for kids to take home and color.
2pm: 1st Raffle Drawing
2pm: Beach Sweep
Lab/Shul and the local Parks Department coordinate a community-service beach sweep. Grab a garbage bag and fill it with ugly refuse polluting our beaches. Pitch in to beautify The Rockaways!
2–6pm: Bee Costume-Making Workshop
Kids are transformed into honeymakers and learn about what makes a bee be, when Arts in Parts leads a bee costume-making session.
4pm: 2nd Raffle Drawing
4pm: Waterside Musical Honey Ritual
Lab/Shul leads a musical Tashlich (an interactive shedding ritual) on the beach, followed by a ceremony to save the bees, heal our planet, and bless the year ahead.
5:30pm: Honey-Tasting Contest
The winner of the source-picked honey-tasting contest will be announced.
6pm: 3rd Raffle Drawing
6pm: Marketplace Ends
Sunset: Screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Rockaway Civic's Beach Flix brings movie night to the beach, setting up a huge inflatable screen at 86th Street. Bring a beach chair, a blanket, or find a seat on the newly built amphitheater to watch the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Running time: approx. 100 mins.
